Am I weird?
Am I unusual?
Or do I just have a different appreciation of things?
The word “obsessed” has been used!
Because the humble toilet is a much under-appreciated thing.
As a rule, people don’t love them, they don’t talk about them and they most certainly don’t celebrate them.
But there is always an exception to the rule!
I am passionate about toilets.
I think about them, talk about them, ask people to provide them and turn up to the official press opening of them!
“Press opening???” I can almost hear you questioning why on earth the press would cover the opening of a toilet.
Yet almost every Changing Places toilet seems to get attention. There will be an official opening with invitations going out to local press. There might be a ribbon to cut and some have even been opened with a gathering which includes a specially made cake to celebrate it! Social media will be awash with excitement. Individuals and families will be delighted.
It will be celebrated!
But why?
Don’t get me wrong, the people who have worked to make these facilities happen should be proud of them. And we should be proud of every good person who has made it happen.
But, surely, the real marker that our society is accessible and inclusive, would be when toilets with a bench and hoist are seen as everyday things, just another facility and certainly nothing to celebrate?
Agree totally. I’m fed up with this world. x

I agree that there should be more done to ensure there is accessibility for all. It must be very frustrating for you.

They could use the money they spend on cake and what not and put it towards another accessible changing place.

That must be so frustrating for you, it really should be something that comes as standard!

It’s so disappointing to think in this day and age that there isn’t the accessible facilities for everyone.

You’d think that by now there would be a law for this kind of thing.

You are doing great!! You are making people aware that everyone need to use the loo and making people aware that sometimes it need to be a lot easier for people to access than others. Keep up the great work 🙂

It is heartbreaking. Especially when I see my son’s face looking so crushed every day. 10 years of the Changing Places toilet campaign and my 10 year old can still barely go anywhere easily. It needs to change. I need it to change. I don’t want there to be another mother with another little boy ten years from now and still struggling with the same things.

Spot on! They should make public toilets available to access for EVERYONE!

There really does need to be big changes! Most people don’t second guess it at all but for those who need to use these facilities and can’t, it’s a reminder of how the world still isn’t adjusting to cater for everyone.

Especially as these facilities have been around a long time. I think hoists have been used since the 1930s. They are not new.

Gosh, I’ve never thought about public toilets so much since I stared reading your blog! Obviously this is meant as a compliment as it means you are achieving your objective perfectly – raising awareness. Well done and keep going.

Thank you! I love it when people tell me they are now thinking about them. Some friends even take photos and send me them! 😀

A very good point that it should just be normal for toilets to be accessible in this way. And I don’t even thing it’s unusual to be excited about toilets. Coming from America, I don’t think there are enough public toilets in the UK. #kcacols

Yes it is unappreciated yet so vital! We should all be a little obsessed by them actually! Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday.

All toilets should absolutely be made accessible. I’m not surprised you are fighting so hard for this to happen and I really hope the petition helps.
Thank you for linking up to #KCACOLS and I hope to see you back again on Sunday x

You shouldn’t even have to worry about this it should be commonplace when you think of how the world has moved on yet people are still struggling to find a loo that’s accessible to them.Just wrong. #kcacols

It is so ridiculous that these day peel still aren’t cared for and have facilities readily available wherever they go! #globalblogging

You are amazing, achieving your goals step by step! Yet, I don’t know if I’m sad or angry that despite all the progress the world has made, accessibility is still a problem! This really is so wrong! Wish you all the best! x #GlobalBlogging
